Affordable 150 MPG Car Coming!

Written on June 30, 2008. Written by Zac.

This is some pretty cool news. Its called the Antro Solo and is a solar, electric, and gas powered hybrid (I like to call it a tribrid). At only $20,000. Beyond the hybrid capabilities the gas mileage (over 150 MPG) is largely attributed to the Antro Solo’s meager 600 pound weight. Now don’t think its [...]

Colbert Explains Why High Gas Prices Are Good

I thought you could use a little comic relief on the subject, watch this one:

Be A Bargain Hunter

Written on June 26, 2008. Written by Zac.

Now don’t go too far out of your way, driving 50 miles to save $0.01 a gallon isn’t economical. If you see a good deal though, jump on it. Gas prices don’t go down, only up, so even if your tank isn’t empty buy gas whenever you see a good price. I have done many comparisons [...]

Load Your Car Properly

Written on June 25, 2008. Written by Zac.

Keep It Aerodynamic:

Don’t haul around bikes on your roof, flags on your car, skis or snowboards unless you’re on your way to use them. Keep your windows rolled up whenever possible. Keep your car as sleek as possible, the less drag placed on your car the less your engine has to work to reach the [...]

Honda’s Hydrogen Car - 2008 FCX Clarity

Written on June 19, 2008. Written by Zac.

Well, it is finally here, although I must say they sure like to make alternative energy vehicles look a bit silly. Honda’s very first hydrogen cell road-ready car, the 2008 FCX Clarity. Although I’m almost 9 months late from the release, I finally saw my first one of this limited edition! Unfortunately the infrastructure is [...]

Gas To Soar To The New Height Of $5 A Gallon

Written on June 18, 2008. Written by Zac.

Analysts nationwide are predicting the inveitable, $5 a gallon for your cheap regular gasoline. The only argument is when. A vast majority believe that it will hit the new milestone by the July 4th weekend in response to the large travel demand. Others believe it may take until the labor day travel holiday to pass [...]

Use Fuel Saver Devices In Your Vehicle

Written on June 14, 2008. Written by Zac.

Now if you want to improve your gas mileage (and who doesn’t?) its a good idea to look at any number of fuel saving devices, or a combination of them. These range from a fairly expensive fuel economy chip if you have a newer vehicle to additives you can throw in your gas tank for [...]

Don’t Carry Unnecessary Weight And Save Gas

Written on June 13, 2008. Written by Zac.

The more weight you have in your car the more your engine has to work to get around, and thus the more gas you burn. Don’t carry around extra stuff like your snow tires or your obese mother-in-law whenever possible. This one wont save you a lot, but every little bit helps.

Purchase A Fuel Efficient Vehicle

Written on June 12, 2008. Written by Zac.

This is probably the single best improvement you can make for more MPG and thus more cash per day in your wallet. Even a compact used car for $1,000 can save you, like an early 90’s Geo Metro, and at that price pay for itself in saved gas in no time. Remember to also get [...]

Avoid Excessive Idling

Written on June 11, 2008. Written by Zac.

Avoiding excessive idling turned out to have a far greater impact on fuel savings than I had predicted. It takes the same amount of gasoline to start your car as it does to run for 1 minute, so if you’re dropping a movie in the box for 20 seconds let it run but otherwise shut [...]
