Avoid Excessive Idling
Avoiding excessive idling turned out to have a far greater impact on fuel savings than I had predicted. It takes the same amount of gasoline to start your car as it does to run for 1 minute, so if you’re dropping a movie in the box for 20 seconds let it run but otherwise shut it down. With my average everyday driving I tested myself. Turning my car off EVERYTIME I expected to idle for 1 minute or greater I found it saved me 17% on my gasoline compared to my normal driving. And I don’t even allow my car to idle that often!
