Big Winter Gas Waster - Cold Engine Temp
A big gas waster in the winter time is the cold operating temperature of your engine. When an engine is below, or above, its ideal operating temperature it functions far less efficiently. There are, however, a few things that you can try to get your engine temperature up a bit.
First of all you should be sure to drive with engine temp in mind. A good approach is to let your car warm up as much as possible, while you are driving as idling wastes gas. If you have a series of different stops go to the furthest ones first and then work your way back. This is because your engine will stay hot for quite a while, but takes time to get up there. This will ensure that your engine functions properly and provides you with more MPG.
The next thing that you can do is a very simple mod to your car. Cover the grill with something, anything will do depending on how important looks are to you. This keeps the wind generated from motion from cooling your engine. This, in turn, allows your engine to operate at a higher temperature and getter better gas mileage.
