Honda’s Hydrogen Car - 2008 FCX Clarity

Well, it is finally here, although I must say they sure like to make alternative energy vehicles look a bit silly. Honda’s very first hydrogen cell road-ready car, the 2008 FCX Clarity. Although I’m almost 9 months late from the release, I finally saw my first one of this limited edition! Unfortunately the infrastructure is not in place yet to really get these babies rolling. I dug a little and found that what this bad boy uses in hydrogen comes out to as if you were getting almost 86 MPG in terms of what it costs you to drive around. Now I don’t know about yourself, but that sounds pretty nice to me. Although it may be a decade before hydrogen pump stations are up nationwide (probably less if you’re in California) I would stay tuned, this is the wave of the future. If any of you missed it, I recently converted my 1998 GMC Sierra to run on a sort of hydrogen cell / gas hybrid. You put in straight tap water and all in all it cost me less than $200 (a tank of gas runs me $100 here!). While I didn’t quite achieve the advertised 40% more mileage per gallon of gas, I did some tests and I’m getting between 30%-35%. That of course is excellent for a one time $200 investment. I wrote up a little review on it if you’re interested. This is one money saver nobody should pass up.
