Leave Early for Work
One of the best ways to save some gas on your morning commute is to leave nice and early. There are two ways in which this greatly helps your fuel consumption, here they are.
First of all by giving yourself plenty of time to get to work you will not have to rush. It is proven that you save about 30% more gas by driving defensively as opposed to aggressively. In addition many hypermiling techniques that you have learned, both in my book and on this blog, require you to take more time to get your destination; they are simply not possible when speeding.
The second reason to leave a bit earlier is to avoid rush hour. Being able to keep up your momentum and avoid stop and go traffic is a great way to get more miles per gallon.
Try leaving with plenty of time to get to work for a week, I think you’ll be very pleasantly surprised at how much gas you will save.
