Popping The Clutch
If you are an advanced hypermiler who drives a manual then listen up. We all know that killing your car to coast, and then restarting, is one of the best ways to save fuel. The downside to this, however, is that your starter eventually needs to be replaced from so much starting. A good way to bypass this is to ‘pop’ your clutch on restart.
A general rule of thumb for this, to avoid any damage to your engine, is to ‘pop’ your clutch two gears higher than what you would be driving at. So if you’re doing 40 MPH, and this would normally be 3rd gear for you, then ‘pop’ your clutch in 5th gear, and shift back to 3rd to drive after your car is started.
Try it out, its great for saving gas and not harming your vehicle.
